1.Strip wave:
The strip wave appears because there are transverse tension and transverse strain in sheets when sheets are bent by roll forming machine, but the strain of the sheet along the thickness direction( the axial strain) is usually very small. According to experience, the material will have a Poisson relationship in the process of deformation, then there will be shrinkage at the concentration of deformation, so under the action of force, a band-like bulge will appear due to instability.

When strip waves appear, we can use more forming stands to solve this phenomenon; because the width of the section edge will affect the band waves, thin plates are more prone to strip waves than thick plates. The engineer can apply pressure to the sheet at design to relieve the strip wave.
2.Edge waves
Edge waves are the most common phenomenon in the production process of roll forming machines. There are two reasons for it.
(1) Same as the strip wave, because the material in the curved section is subjected to transverse tensile stress, which in turn induces transverse tensile strain, and because of the Poisson relationship, transverse shrinkage occurs. At this time, the edge part will appear edge wave due to shrinkage stress.
(2) The material was initially stretched and sheared under the action of external force to become longer, and then plastically deformed by compression and shear, which eventually led to edge waves.

3.Longitudinal bending
There are many reasons for the longitudinal bending in the process of roll forming machine production , but the most important factor is that the edge of the section is stretched in the longitudinal direction because of the tension in the process of bending the side.

4.The problem of rolling stability is that the material is often swayed in the raceway during production. In fact, a single set of rollers is asymmetrical. The left side bears a large force and the material moves to the right; the right bears a large force and the material moves to the left.
